Sunday
Services is our new program designed to accommodate the
lives of Atlantans who don't have time to attend weeknight
classes or study programs but who still consider important
setting aside time during their weekend for spiritual development.
In
the book, Eight Steps to Happiness, Geshe
Kelsang advises, "We do not need to abandon
our family, friends, or enjoyments, and retire to a
mountain cave. All we need to do is change our object
of cherishing."
By taking
to heart the Sunday teachings from our Resident Teacher,
Gen Mondrub, we will learn how to bring the teaching into
our daily life, solve our daily problems, authentically
improve our world, and progress towards our greatest human
potential. By gradually learning how to meditate we will
be able to release accumulated stress, develop a more focused,
stable, and peaceful mind, and also bring this peace into
our relationships and our world. Afterwards there will be
time to ask questions and have a lively discussion.
If families
wish to attend together, we have designed an adjacent sound-proofed
room where your children can learn about these same teachings
on their own level and at their own pace. Parents can join
in with their children or take a break in the adult program
nextdoor. Click here to
view the children's class schedule.
Following
each Sunday Service will be a Social Hour for everyone,
with a rotation of potluck refreshments and food, where
we can make new friends and find spiritiual community.
Simple,
preparatory prayers in English, set to beautiful music,
will be used prior to the Sunday teachings , but no one
has to participate if they prefer just to listen. The purpose
of these traditional prayers is to remove negativity in
the mind and cultivate a positive mental environment.
